We had many tough moments in ‘Game of Thrones’ when we had to watch someone dying. Even if he or she was the nice character or the ‘villain’. Even the creator of ‘Game of Thrones’, George R.R. Martin revealed that he had difficult moments when he had ‘to kill’ someone in his novel. But, the hardest thing for him was to kill Robb Stark at the Red Wedding.
Martin said that ‘I knew the Red Wedding was coming and I’d been planning it all along, but when I came to that chapter, which occurs two-thirds of the way through ‘A Storm of Swords’, I found I couldn’t write that chapter. I skipped over that chapter and wrote the hundreds of pages that followed. The entire book was done, except for the scene with the Red Wedding, and even all the aftermath of the Red Wedding.’
Except the viewers, who were all shocked about Robb Stark’s death, and also about his pregnant wife and his mother’s death, it seems that it was not easy for Martin to write it either. He also added that ‘It was just so hard to write that scene, because I’d been inhabiting Catelyn for so long, and of course I have a lot of affection for Robb, too, although he was never a viewpoint character, and even for some of the minor characters. They’re minor characters but you develop a relationship to them too, and I knew they all were going to die. It was some of the hardest writing I’ve ever done, but it’s also one of the most powerful scenes I’ve ever done.’ It was a powerful scene indeed and one of the best from the HBO show.
It seems that now when the 7th season ended, the fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ should wait for more than a year to watch the last season of the most viewed show in the history of television. Sources say that the shooting of the 8th season will begin in October this year, so the last season will be available on HBO at the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019.
